David Dastmalchian has already left his mark on both the DC and Marvel universes, but there’s one role he’s still dreaming of: the Joker. The talented actor, known for his performances in Oppenheimer, The Suicide Squad, and Ant-Man, recently revealed that stepping into the shoes of Gotham’s infamous Clown Prince of Crime is one of his biggest career aspirations.
His second-ever acting credit was in The Dark Knight (2008), where he played one of the Joker’s henchmen. He later returned to Gotham in the TV series Gotham, portraying the creepy Dwight Pollard. Over the years, he has built a reputation for playing eerie and unsettling characters, making him a natural fit for a villain as complex as the Joker.

During a recent interview at the Saturn Awards, Dastmalchian shared his passion for the role:
“I know we’re just kidding around here, but I would love it. I think some people go, ‘Hamlet is my life’s quest,’ or ‘Willy Loman is my life’s quest.’ Getting to put on the makeup of the Clown Prince of Crime at some point in my lifetime is up there next to one of my greatest career dreams, which is to be an enemy of James Bond.”
Fans have long speculated about who could take on the role of the Joker in future DC projects. Other actors, such as Bill Skarsgård, have also expressed interest, while Willem Dafoe has been a fan-favorite casting choice for years. However, Dastmalchian’s experience, dedication, and eerie performances in films like Late Night with the Devil make him a standout candidate.
With DC Studios heading into a new era under James Gunn and Peter Safran, there’s still plenty of uncertainty about when and where the Joker will appear next. However, if Dastmalchian ever gets the opportunity, it’s clear he would bring an intense and chilling performance to the role.
