The long-awaited live-action adaptation of Just Cause is finally moving forward, with Universal Pictures backing the project. Aaron Rabin, known for his work on Jack Ryan and Nobody 2, has been roped to write the screenplay, while Ángel Manuel Soto, the director of Blue Beetle, is set to direct the film.
Bringing Just Cause to the Big Screen
First released as a video game in 2006, Just Cause follows special agent Rico Rodriguez, who works for a secret U.S. organization dedicated to overthrowing oppressive governments. The series quickly gained a reputation for its vast open-world settings, intense action, and over-the-top, explosive gameplay.

Though the film’s plot is still under wraps, Rabin’s expertise in action storytelling and Soto’s direction hint at an adaptation that could bring the game’s signature chaos and humor to life on the big screen.
Universal Pictures has been investing heavily in video game adaptations, with recent successes like Super Mario Bros. Movie and Five Nights at Freddy’s, both of which performed exceptionally well at the global box office. With Just Cause, the studio is taking on a more action-oriented project, which could appeal to fans of high-octane franchises like John Wick and Mission: Impossible.
