‘Black Panther 3’ Is Officially in the Works — Denzel Washington Joins the Cast

Marvel Studios is preparing to bring fans back into one of its most beloved worlds, with ‘Black Panther 3’ now officially moving forward. And this time, the kingdom is welcoming a legendary new face Denzel Washington.

Director Ryan Coogler is set to return, once again taking the helm after guiding both the original Black Panther and its sequel, Wakanda Forever, to critical and commercial success. Coogler, who’s been deeply involved with shaping Wakanda’s story from the start, reportedly wrote a role specifically with Denzel Washington in mind. Calling him “the greatest living actor,” Coogler has long hoped to work with Washington, and now that dream is finally coming to life. Washington, who rarely takes on big franchise roles, said this story was one he couldn’t pass up.

Letitia Wright is expected to return as Shuri, the brilliant princess who took up the Black Panther mantle in Wakanda Forever following the passing of T’Challa. While plot details are still tightly under wraps, the film is expected to explore what Wakanda looks like in a post-Secret Wars world, likely touching on new leadership, new challenges, and possibly new heroes.

Marvel fans can expect even more surprises, as the studio is reportedly planning four theatrical releases in 2028, including long-rumored titles like Fantastic Four 2, Blade, and potentially the X-Men reboot. But with Black Panther 3, Marvel seems to be kicking off a new era with purpose—anchored in legacy, depth, and strong storytelling.

The Black Panther franchise has always stood apart in the Marvel universe. It became a cultural milestone with the first film in 2018, earning over $1.3 billion worldwide and becoming the first superhero movie to receive a Best Picture nomination at the Oscars. The second film carried that momentum while honoring the late Chadwick Boseman’s unforgettable impact. Now, with Coogler returning and Denzel Washington joining the cast, the third chapter is already shaping up to be something special.

Black Panther 3’ is currently scheduled to hit theaters in February 2028.
