A new rumor has emerged that Sony’s next God of War game could be shifting its focus to ancient Egypt. After the critically acclaimed God of War: Ragnarok concluded Kratos’ Norse saga, fans have been speculating about where the iconic franchise will head next and Egypt may just be the next battleground for the Ghost of Sparta.
According to an insider Daniel Richtman, Sony is reportedly casting for roles that suggest the series will explore Egyptian mythology. This potential shift would introduce players to a pantheon of gods and goddesses like Ra, Anubis, and Isis, as well as an entirely new setting filled with sprawling deserts, ancient pyramids, and bustling cities on the Nile.
Kratos in Egypt?

While nothing has been officially confirmed by Sony or Santa Monica Studio, the idea of Kratos venturing into Egyptian mythology is not far-fetched. In fact, this possibility was teased years ago during the development of the 2018 God of War. At that time, developers revealed that they had considered Egyptian mythology as a potential setting before ultimately choosing Norse mythology for the reboot.
Egypt offers a rich tapestry of gods and mythological creatures that could provide Kratos and his son, Atreus, with new challenges and moral dilemmas. Themes of life, death, and the afterlife—core elements of Egyptian mythology—would seamlessly align with the emotional and philosophical undertones of the series.
Awaiting Confirmation
As of now, Sony has not commented on the rumors, and there’s no official word on when the next God of War game will be announced. However, given the franchise’s massive success, it’s only a matter of time before Santa Monica Studio reveals what’s next for Kratos and the God of War series.
