Bong Joon-ho is gearing up for his next live-action movie, a horror-action film set in the sprawling underground subway system of Seoul. The director, known for his genre-bending storytelling and sharp social commentary, described this project as his “life project”—a story he’s been nurturing since 2001.
In an interview with MBC Korea, Bong revealed a chilling glimpse into the film’s opening scene:
“We’re running through the underground section of the subway. In the car next to us, people wearing similar clothes start to come over to our side.
It sounds like the film will blend hard-hitting action with creepy horror, all against the distinctive and unsettling backdrop of Seoul’s huge subway system. With Bong’s history of blending thrills with social commentary, this film may be a frightening experience as well as an intellectual one.
But First: Mickey 17

Before the horror-action movie his next movie releasing is Mickey 17 on March 7, 2025. The film stars Robert Pattinson, Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo.
The film is an adaptation of Edward Ashton’s novel Mickey7, which follows the story of Mickey, a labourer on a mission to colonise the freezing planet Niflheim. Early reviews for Mickey 17 have been quite positive, with critics applauding the film’s combination of sci-fi adventure and emotional drama. Bong Joon-ho’s direction is once again excellent, with stunning visuals and a rich, intriguing tale.
